Bachelor of Science in Agriculture

Do you want to be part of the future agriculture and food-production industry? Are you interested in economic, ecological and social interactions? Then a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture is perfect for you. You will gain a solid foundation in the various areas of agriculture and the necessary skills for professional life.

Studying practically

Issues relating to agriculture and food security are growing in importance in Switzerland and also worldwide: along with water resources management, they are fundamental to our existence. At the same time, consumers are demanding healthy and inexpensive food. Farmers have to satisfy these demands and find appropriate solutions for their farms. Well-educated experts are needed to deal with such challenges. With the BFH-HAFL degree, you will gain the necessary knowledge and skills: you will learn the underlying theory for your future professional activity and then consolidate this theory with directly relevant practice, for example in experiments, excursions, case studies and while writing academic papers.

Creating career prospects

Once you graduate, you will be qualified to take on positions of responsibility in the agricultural sector in downstream and upstream businesses, organisations or public administration. Possibilities include:

  • advising farmers on future-related issues
  • improving animal genetics
  • breeding new plants
  • researching better feeding methods
  • communicating new agricultural trends
  • opening up markets for innovative products
  • educating young professionals
  • working in development cooperation

The Bachelor of Science in Agriculture also prepares you for a master’s degree.

Majors and additional qualifications

During your studies, you will specialise in one of five majors. You can also take an additional qualification in Organic Agriculture and Resource Protection. Furthermore, you have the choice of taking one of four minors which will enable you to develop specific career-related skills.
