Study on the green campus

Close to the city of Bern but also in the countryside, the HAFL campus is perfectly situated. Within a ten-minute journey on a suburban train, you’re in the centre of Switzerland’s capital city with its wide range of amenities. But there’s plenty to do on the campus itself, like:

  • swimming pool
  • beach volleyball
  • billiards
  • barbecue area
  • table tennis
  • fitness rooms with climbing wall
  • sauna

The campus is bordered by fields and forest. Its facilities include numerous modern laboratories, a pilot plant, a large library, a cafeteria and a student kitchen. There’s also a hall of residence with about 140 furnished single rooms.

Lived sustainability

Sustainability isn’t only a topic to be studied on the three degree programmes, it’s also HAFL’s campus-wide approach to respecting nature and protecting the environment

  • The 2012 extension to the campus was built to Minergie-P-Eco standard (Minergie is a Swiss quality label for low-energy consumption buildings).
  • A substantial proportion of the electricity consumed on campus is ‘green’.
  • When planning the campus grounds, native plants were chosen and biodiversity promoted.
